Road Angel goes M.A.D in support of road casualty reduction

According to the Department for Transport 2,946 people were killed on British roads in 2007, and whilst this is a 7% reduction to 2006, more needs to be done to make British roads safer.

In a new initiative, Road Angel Group (the company that develops the UK’s market leading safety camera and blackspot alert systems) has recently announced it is supporting the West Yorkshire Casualty Reduction Partnership’s ‘Make.A.Difference’ (M.A.D) campaign – aimed at creating awareness about the dangers of British roads, making them a safer place and ultimately reducing the number of driving related casualties.

Graham Mackie, Managing Director of Road Angel Group said, “Road Angel was established back in 2000 with the sole aim of providing drivers with information about blackspots and other road hazards, empowering them to make their journeys safer.  Our ethos and commitment to road safety is reflected through our support for the M.A.D campaign, which we hope will create further awareness about road safety and highlight often simple measures all road users can take to keep safe on the roads, and make a difference”.

Road Angel is donating four Navigator 9000 units (valued at over £1,000) for a series of prize giveaways to promote the campaign.

About Make.A.Difference

M.A.D – Make.A.Difference™ – is a new and ambitious project from West Yorkshire Casualty Reduction Partnership that aims to harness ‘people power’ to bring about better behaviour on local roads that will lead to further reductions in incidents and injuries.

Individuals are invited to ‘be the one to make the difference’ by making a tangible commitment to take extra care of themselves and those around them on the roads ‘today and every day’. Those who sign the promise at www.mad-beahero.co.uk will receive a certificate for display at their home or workplace, plus a car sticker: ‘I’m M.A.D (Making A Difference) on the road’, and a lapel badge.

“Wearing the badge or displaying the poster and sticker shows that you care about road safety in your community,” says Philip Gwynne, Head of Public Affairs at West Yorkshire Casualty Reduction Partnership. “It doesn’t matter if you’re a driver, passenger, pedestrian, cyclist or motorbike rider, everyone can make a difference and contribute to safety on our streets.”
